+ Tronador and its glaciers

With its 3,554 meters high and its 10 glaciers, Cerro Tronador is the highest peak in Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi. It is named after its enormous amount of ice and snow avalanches that make loud thunders imitating real ones and, at the same time, it feeds its glaciers. The excursion begins in the city of Bariloche, then we take the road of the three lakes to Villa Mascardi, where we take road 254 bordering Mascardi lake until we reach the mouth of Río Manso, which has its source in the mountainside of Cerro Tronador. From this fork until the foot of Catedral, we go through 50 kilometers of woods and streams, the first stretch along Mascardi lake, and later along the upper part of the Manso river. Before the end of the road, we arrive at the Ventisquero Negro viewpoint, one of the glaciers in Tronador where we can enjoy a privileged view of Tronador and its glaciers. Then, we carry on our way to the foothills of Tronador. To be at the base of Tronador and appreciate that mountain mass covered with perennial snows will be an experience hard to forget.
A good alternative to the classical ground transportation is the combination with a water excursion in Mascardi lake, between Puerto Mascardi and Puerto Tronador, where we finally take the bus to continue the trip to the base of the Tronador. This way, the tourist can visit other places and, therefore, make the trip even more attractive.
